Darwin, Northern Territory

April 29 - May 4, 2003

To me, Darwin, at the northern end of the Stuart Highway, was not much more than a base for trips to Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks.  Nonetheless, there were a few things of interest there, including an outdoor theater that shows indie films, a lively night market, an old prison, oil storage tunnels used during World War II, a tree full of possums, and brilliant sunsets.  But it is indeed a frontier town, at the Top End of Australia's Outback.
