August 13-15, 2000

After Sun'chon, we went on a 2 day family outing to Chirisan National Park.  I have been told that Chirisan is one of Korea's most beautiful parks, featuring many temples, Korea's second largest mountain (Ch'onwangbong at 1915m), and a 1000 year old pine tree.  After spending a few days enjoying the scenery of Chirisan, I have no reason to dispute this claim.

These statues greet you at the entrance to a temple in the park. View from about 1000m looking down on Chirisan. The scenery near where we stayed in Chirisan. The 1000+ year old pine tree. Hebrew writing, next to a cross, in the middle of Korea?
Enjoying a swim in a cool stream with Uncle Kang. Looking down on our accommodations from the pine tree. Buddha A hungry Korean family sits down to a hearty breakfast consisting of kimchi, kimchi stew, grilled meat, lettuce, and rice. Posing for a picture after emerging from the park.  It was a most interesting two days.
