A visit to Tokyo would not be complete without an early morning
trip to the Tsukiji Ichiba (Fish Market). The place is abuzz with activity,
including a live fish auction, forklifts racing through the narrow aisles
of the market, and plenty of shopkeepers and customers doing business.
Most of the fish consumed in Tokyo's restaurants are purchased at this
market. But you have to get there early. The ships arrive and
the fish is unloaded at 3 AM, and the market is in full swing by 5 AM.
Don't get in this guy's way!
Bidding for tuna. The auctioneer frantically yells out the prices.
And here are the goods.
There are plenty of opportunities to shop around and find what you
are looking for.
My friend Jessica poses with a tuna about her size.
